What's the only circulating coin that features our nation's first president both on its obverse (front) and reverse (back)?  The New Jersey Quarter of course!  This coin, which was first struck at the Philadelphia Mint on May 5, 1999, was the third state to be commemorated in the fascinating 50 State Quarters® Program.

Connected Coins and Medals

Well before New Jersey selected its quarter design, the state had another connection to currency that wasn't even made in the United States!  Read all about the St. Patrick coins that were used in New Jersey before George Washington ever stepped foot in the state!

Our Foreign Friends

The coins produced for the 50 State Quarters Program share much in common with the European currency, the euro.  With your students, visit the interactive cartoon, Coins of the World, to see how these two programs are similar (here's a hint: look at the backs of euros from different countries, and then look at their fronts).

Quarter Games

	Here's a challenge for your students!  Put all the pieces of the New Jersey quarter back together—in three minutes or less!
	Are your students budding artists?  Let them try their hands at painting the New Jersey quarter.  A green George Washington crossing the purple Delaware River...let your imagination run wild!
