Rhett Jeppson - Principal Deputy Director - United States Mint

Rhett Jeppson is the Principal Deputy Director of the United States Mint (Mint), a position he has held since January 2015.

Prior to joining the Mint, Mr. Jeppson served as the Acting Chief Operating Officer of the Small Business Administration, where he oversaw all aspects of the agency’s disaster and risk management, personnel, facilities, information technology and equal opportunity programs. He also served as Associate Administrator for Veterans Business Development at the agency.

After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in history in 1987, Mr. Jeppson joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was commissioned as an officer. He served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer and a Battalion Staff Officer, He has been deployed in conflicts ranging from Operation Desert Storm in Iraq to Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

In August 1991, Mr. Jeppson left active duty to return to Florida to attend to his family’s home construction business after his father suffered a serious illness.

In November 1995, Mr. Jeppson re-entered active duty and was assigned to Special Operations Command Central where he served as an Operations Officer, responsible for the conduct of numerous complex exercises and operations within Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa.

In December 1999, Mr. Jeppson began work with the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as the Deputy Director of Pari-Mutuel Wagering and later, as Special Assistant to the Secretary. In mid-2000, Mr. Jeppson became the Director of State Purchasing for Florida, overseeing the execution of all state contracts and state-wide procurement vehicles.

In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Mr. Jeppson was recalled to service and assigned to U.S. Marine Forces Europe as the representative to the European Command’s Counter-Terrorism Joint Planning Group. He was later assigned as Chief of Current Operations, directly responsible for the employment of all Marine Corps forces in Europe and Western Africa.

Following that assignment, Mr. Jeppson was assigned to U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fla., where he developed and led the command’s engagement with key European partners. He subsequently served in Afghanistan with U.S. Forces—Afghanistan as the Deputy Director of Operations. Mr. Jeppson continues to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He is married to the former Renee Howell of Blountstown, Fla. They have four children.
