Reverse Description:
The United States Mint themed this coin, Return to Monticello, because it features Felix Schlag's 1938 design of Monticello that was restored by Sculptor Engraver, John Mercanti. This restoration included changes to the facets of the dome of Monticello, a rework of the balconies of the building, and the detail around the door and windows was reworked to reflect more of Feliz Schlag's original work. President Jefferson designed Monticello, and as a skilled horticulturalist, planned all details for landscaping. Construction of Monticello began 1768, when Jefferson was 25, and was completed in 1823 when he was eighty. The coin is inscribed: E Pluribus Unum, United States of America, Monticello, and Five Cents.
