The United States Congressional coin was first struck on June 14, 1989 at a ceremony outside of the Capitol. It commemorates the Bicentennial of the U.S. Congress. The design of the coin features the Statue of Freedom which towers at the peak of the Capitol Dome. The coin is inscribed: Liberty, In God We Trust, 1789, and 1989.

Reverse Designer 2:
The reverse of the coin features the Mace of the House of Representatives, which resides in the House Chamber whenever the House is in session, and an eagle astride a world globe. The coin is inscribed: One Dollar, United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Bicentennial of the Congress.
