Case 3: A Cleaning Conspiracy

To clean or not to clean?

Most coin collectors agree that you shouldn't try to clean your coins.  Chances are you'll do more harm than good.  That's why they leave cleaning to professionals.

If you have a really grimy coin, you can wash off the dirt with mild soap and water.  Then gently pat the coin dry with a soft towel, being careful not to rub the towel roughly against the coin's surface.

If you have any doubts, leave it dirty!
