Welcome to the fall 2002 issue of Making Cents, the online newsletter that tells you what's new and striking at the United States Mint.  Be sure to check back every 3 months for a new issue.

Quarter of the Quarter

During the Fall quarter, the Mississippi quarter will roll off the presses to sparkle in the spotlight.  It will glimmer first when it's released on Tuesday, October 15, and be formally launched at a ceremony on the following Tuesday, October 22, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Would you like to know a little secret?  Don't tell anyone, but...all three of the latest quarters will be featured as Coins of the Month!  Yes, you heard it here first! So keep visiting the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site for all the latest coin news.  Find out why the Fall months are so important in the history of Louisiana, Indiana, and Mississippi at "The Coins Are Coming" in the "Coin News" section.

Build a Big "Hello" with Plinky

Plinky and her new game Create-a-Card
Is it a craft?  Is it a game?  It's "Create-a-Card," Plinky's new fun and enriching activity!

Plinky gives you some virtual money so you can buy pictures and words and put them on your own greeting card.  The best part is: your virtual card becomes a real card when you print it!  Then you can give the cards you make to your family and friends.

In level one, you use simple math to buy your decorations and greetings.  Level two is more advanced and gives you more control over where your pictures go.  The "just for fun" level is...well, just for fun! Check out Pinky's Create-a-Card.

How to Have More Fun

Fun Fact display

Did you ever notice the Fun Facts that come up in the little space at the top of each page of H.I.P. Pocket Change?  You never know which fact is going to appear, and each month a new Fun Fact gets added.

But you don't have to settle for one fun fact at a time, you know.  You can have even more fun and see pictures that go with the facts on the special Fun Facts pages.  There's only two ways to get there:  by clicking on a Fun Fact...or by clicking right here.
