$1 Coin Events:  William Howard Taft

Part of the Taft Presidential $1 Coin.

Which Presidential $1 Coin has been created most recently?  During the last quarter, it was the coin that bears the name and portrait of 27th president William Howard Taft.

Taft was a distinguished jurist but got little credit for his achievements in the White House.  But more than Taft wanted to be president, he wanted to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, which indeed happened after he finished his single term in office.

You can download an outline of this coin to color from the Presidential $1 Coin Resource Center. Read more about this man and his coin on the William Howard Taft Presidential $1 Coin page.

Coming up next time: the Woodrow Wilson Presidential $1 Coin.

Quarter of the Quarter:  Fort McHenry

Part of the Fort McHenry quarter.

The fourth quarter released in 2013 celebrates the fort that helped keep invaders out of Baltimore during the War of 1812.  The battle resulted in not only a state holiday in Maryland called “Defenders’ Day” but also in a poem that is known throughout the land even today.

Learn more on the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarter page and through the September Coin of the Month.
