Activity

The 50 State Quarters® Program lesson plans are now available on the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change Web site for use in your classroom!  Take a look at the lesson plans created specifically to celebrate the Nebraska quarter:  Push or Pull (K-1), Travel the Trail (2-3), and Wagons West! (4-6).  After that, check out the rest of these state-specific plans that are FREE to download, and are available in sets designed specifically for grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-6.  You will also find materials for older students that incorporate themes in U.S. history, government, and world history.  Visit the Teachers section to download lesson plans for grades 7-8 or 9-12.

Make a "Connection"

Find out more about travelers found on the reverse of a coin.  Don't miss the October 2003 Coin of the Month, the Missouri quarter.  This coin features Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery, which set out to navigate the Missouri River in 1804.  For a number of years, Missouri was the state farthest west in the United States, so it was a good place for settlers to form wagon trains and begin their journeys.  Be sure to take a look at the accompanying Teacher Feature, Become an Expert, created specifically to research what contributions this state has made to our country and celebrate Missouri's history.
