Presidential $1 Coin Lesson Plans (Rutherford B. Hayes)
Overview
Students will learn about cause and effect and the accomplishments of Rutherford B. Hayes through his Presidential $1 Coin.
Activity
Have the students research Rutherford B. Hayes to learn about his accomplishments while serving as our country's 19th President. Read the October Coin of the Month to learn more about Rutherford B. Hayes. Have the students research Hayes' major accomplishments during his presidency. Have the students complete a cause-and-effect chart highlighting current events from 1877 to 1881, then write summary statements connecting the cause and effect chart with President Hayes' accomplishments.
