Presidential $1 Coin Lesson Plans (Woodrow Wilson)
Students will learn about Woodrow Wilson's accomplishments through his Presidential $1 Coin.
Display and read the December Coin of the Month with the students to learn more about the 28th president. As a class, discuss the key ideas from the Coin of the Month page and record them on chart paper. Discuss the term "legislation" and, if necessary, the process of how laws are made. Add the term, definition (the act or process of making laws) and reasons for its importance to the chart paper.
Using available classroom and online resources, have the students work in groups to research Wilson's major accomplishments throughout his life and during his time as President of the United States. Emphasize the areas of legislation he was best known for during his two terms in office.
Have the students use a graphic organizer to record the accomplishments of Woodrow Wilson and the current events of the time. Invite the students to use their findings to create a presentation in their choice of format (such as multimedia presentation, poster, board game, song, essay, timeline). Have groups of students combine their work into an overall presentation that demonstrates an understanding of Wilson's life and work.
