Presidential $1 Coin Lesson Plans (Herbert Hoover)
Students will research the accomplishments of Herbert Hoover through his Presidential $1 Coin.
Display the August Coin of the Month to help students learn more about the 31st President of the United States. Discuss key ideas as a class and record on chart paper.
Using information from class discussions and available online and classroom resources, have the students research current events of the 1920s and 1930s and Hoover's accomplishments during his presidency.
Have the students record their findings in a graphic organizer and write summary statements. Discuss the students' findings and record them on chart paper or a white board.
Invite students to work in small groups and apply their research findings to create a series of 5 to 8 cause-and-effect statements that involve current events of the time and Hoover's accomplishments during his presidency.
As an extension, have the students create an annotated map demonstrating the various places Hoover lived and what he did while living there.
