Description:
Elias Boudinot was elected President of the United States in the Continental Congress (under the Articles of Confederation, before the Constitution was written). George Washington appointed him the third Director of the United States Mint in 1795, where he served until 1805. In 1796, Boudinot oversaw the minting of the first silver quarter dollars.
