June 2007

June Coin of the Month:  Join Nero the Police Dog as he honors the 1915 Panama-Pacific 50-Dollar Coin.  This month's coin comes in a shape you don't see in coins very often:  octagonal (eight-sided)!  This coin was not a circulating coin but a commemorative coin.  Learn all about this coin and its connection to the Panama Canal in the June Coin of the Month.  Be sure to also check out the accompanying Teacher Feature which helps students make connections about the Panama Canal.

Time Machine:—At this moment, Nero the Mint Police Dog is setting the dials on the time machine for an adventure in New York City.  He'll take you to the year 1935, a time during the Great Depression.  You'll find out about the Great Depression, FDR, and the New Deal with our Teacher Feature.

Summer Fun with Coins—During the summer months, there are lots of ways to have fun with coins.  Here you will find some great activities including arts and crafts, tricks and games, and even ways to earn money.  There are suggestions on collecting coins, designing note cards, creating clay coins, making a piggy bank and yummy "cents-sational" cookies!

Celebrate Father's Day—Invite your students to visit our Games page and make a special card for Dad using Plinky's Create-a-Card (printer required).
