During the past month, new information and activities have been added to the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site. To help you learn "What's New for You," we've listed and linked these features below.
September Coin of the Month: Join Inspector Collector as he learns more about the tropical beauty symbolized on the U.S. Virgin Islands quarter. This is the fifth quarter of the 2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program.
The District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarter Program lesson plans are now available on the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site for you to use in your classroom! Take a look at the lesson plans created specifically to celebrate the U.S. Virgin Islands quarter: "Treasure Hunt" (K and 1), "Island Animals" (2 and 3), and "Weather Alert" (4 through 6).
After that, check out the rest of the District of Columbia and U.S. Territories plans, which are FREE to download and are available in sets designed specifically for grades K and 1, 2 and 3, and 4 through 6.
New Teachers' Section: Check out the new look and feel of the Teachers section at usmint.gov/kids/teachers. You'll save time and be more productive with the new navigation menus which make it easier to find lesson plans and activities for your classroom and keep track of where you are on the site.
Constitution Day page: On September 17, 1787, the final draft of the Constitution was signed. A lot of thought, debate, and working together had to happen for the delegates at the Constitutional Convention to come up with the document that has guided us for more than 200 years. Have your students take the Constitution Trivia Quiz to get to know the Constitution and some of the men who signed it!
Teacher Features: Exploring the Teachers section of H.I.P. Pocket Change is a good way to find great classroom ideas. And here's another tool for you: the Teacher Feature icon, sprinkled throughout the kids' part of the site. Be sure to click on the icon whenever you see it to locate options and ideas that relate directly to whatever you just read!
