Women's History Month
To celebrate Women's History Month, explore the Medal Mania page and share the collection of Congressional gold medals that have been awarded to various women in recognition of their service, contributions, and accomplishments.
Be sure to also take your students back to the year 1917 with the Time Machine. Your students will see life during World War I and the Suffrage Era and understand more about a time when women in the United States were struggling for their right to vote.
Music in Our Schools
March is known as "Music in Our Schools Month." Visit the new "Music Plans" page on the site and be ready to jazz up your curriculum with these lesson plans based on the Tennessee and District of Columbia quarters.
2012 America the Beautiful Lesson Plans
The 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters® lesson plans are available for you to download and use in your classroom. The 2012 lesson plans include a new feature: a coin zoom viewer, enabling you and your students to appreciate the fine details in each coin's design! The lessons cover grades K through 12 and are available online for free!
Coin of the Month
For the March Coin of the Month, Peter the Mint Eagle introduces the 2012 Star-Spangled Banner $5 commemorative coin. The designs symbolize the War of 1812, particularly the Battle of Baltimore, which is the basis for the anthem's lyrics. Visit the March Coin of the Month to learn more.
