Can you believe it's already 2005? Well the folks at the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site have been extremely busy getting the site ready for the new year! To help you learn about "What's New For You," explore some of the fun links that are listed below.
Time Machine—Be sure to visit Peter the Mint Eagle as he continues to show off some exciting features of the new Time Machine. In Era 4, you'll visit the War of 1812 and see who is invading Washington, D.C. And while you're at it, check out the associated Teacher Feature "Worth Their Weight," a mathematics lesson using grams and facts about the 1811 Large Cent.
Be sure to also check out Peter's Clothesmatic 3000 to see how Bill the Mint Buffalo dresses as a gentleman as he learns more about the Large Cent. So, step into the Time Machine; Peter and his friends can hardly wait to share the brand new adventure with you!
New Nickels—The nickel is about to undergo 2 more changes in 2005, as part of the Westward Journey Nickel SeriesT. The new nickels will continue to commemorate Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark's famous journey.
Also, for the first time in 67 years, the obverse (front) image of the coin will receive a new look! Go to the United States Mint Web site and take a look at the new 2005 designs. In addition, the Westward Journey Nickel SeriesT Lesson Plans designed for the 2004 nickels are ready for download and the 2005 lesson plans will be coming soon!
January's Coin of the Month—The Vermont Copper is January's Coin of the Month. Join Goldie the Mint Fish as she learns about Ethan Allen and how he helped the Green Mountain state gain its independence.
Fun Facts—A new Fun Fact is available each month, but you don't have to settle for one fun fact at a time! You can have even more fun and see pictures that go with the facts on the special Fun Facts pages. Just click on a fact at the top of any H.I.P. Pocket Change page and learn some little known stories of the United States Mint and American coinage!

Westward Journey Nickel Series Lesson Plans—An image of a bison is depicted on the reverse of the new nickel. Be sure to check out the new K–6 lesson plans coming to you in February to learn more about how the American Indians and Lewis and Clark interacted with this magnificent animal found on the Great Plains.
