Fly a Kite Indoors
June 15th is Fly a Kite Day, possibly the anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's famous kite experiment in 1752. Your class can celebrate by flying a kite, of course, but even indoors they can play the H.I.P. Pocket Change game “Franklin's Try-N-Fly”!
In this game, the player directs Mintbot to navigate through thunderstorms so he can collect the power of lightning before the pieces of Franklin's snake get fried. If they accomplish the mission, they can print a kite that they can fold, attach to a string, and try to fly.
Along the way, they'll see a Franklin political cartoon on unity and learn about two Franklin commemorative coins from 2006...overall, a very fitting activity for Fly a Kite Day!
