American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins for Collectors
The one-ounce American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins for collectors feature the "W" mint mark of the United States Mint at West Point where these coins are produced. These coins have a limited mintage and may be purchased directly from the United States Mint.
Since its debut in 1997, the obverse (heads side) of the United States Mint’s American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin has featured Lady Liberty, a symbol of vigilance and resolute faithfulness to duty. Designed and sculpted by former United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti, Lady Liberty continues to grace the obverse of this coin.
In 2015, the United States Mint is launching a new two-year series featuring coins with modern reverse (tails side) designs that are innovative, beautiful and representative of our nation’s core values of liberty and freedom.
The 2015 reverse was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor–Engraver Phebe Hemphill. The design, titled "Liberty Nurtures Freedom," depicts Liberty and an American bald eagle, representing Freedom. The earth and sun with rays are in the foreground. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ.," ".9995 PLATINUM" and "$100."
Hi-resolution versions are available from the Pressroom Image Library.
