In 2014, the United States Mint will celebrate the semi-centennial of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with a commemorative coin depicting pictures of this historical movement. This coin will be produced in accordance with Public Law 110-451, approved by Congress on December 2, 2008. A surcharge of $10 per coin will go directly to the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) to carry out the purposes of the Fund, including providing scholarships and internships for minority students and operating funds and technology enhancement services for its 37 member historically colleges and universities.
