American Women Quarters 2023 Ornament - Jovita Idar
Mintage Limit is the total number of a coin manufactured across all products. (For example, a coin may be available in rolls and in our annual sets).
Product Limit is the number of a coin made available in the individual product.
Household Order Limit In cases where we have limited-mintage products (e.g., legislatively mandated or Mint established production or mintage limits), the United States Mint may impose order or household order limits. Order limits help us ensure that we provide fair purchase opportunities to the broadest audience possible. As we monitor our products, limits may be implemented, adjusted, or removed at our discretion.
The American Women Quarters honor a diverse group of notable American women who made significant contributions in a variety of fields, including suffrage, civil rights, abolition, government, humanities, science, space, and the arts. The women honored are from ethnically, racially, and geographically diverse backgrounds.
Jovita Idar was a Mexican-American journalist, activist, teacher, community organizer, champion of quality education for Mexican-American children, and suffragist.
The ornament’s colors and design elements were inspired by her Mexican heritage. The stack of books and shirt represent the school supplies, clothing, and food she provided to school children, while her white cross arm band (La Cruz Blanca) honors her volunteer work as a nurse during the Mexican Revolution. The newspapers and typewriter pay homage to her life as a journalist and writer.
The reverse (tails) of the coin features a depiction of Jovita Idar with her hands clasped. Within her body are inscriptions representing some of her greatest accomplishments and the newspapers for which she wrote.
Framed by the ornament is a 2023 quarter with the reverse (tails) with text including the inscriptions “MEXICAN AMERICAN RIGHTS,” “TEACHER,” “JOVITA IDAR,” “NURSE,” “EVOLUCIÓN,” “ASTREA,” “EL HERALDO CRISTIANO,” “LA CRUZ BLANCA,” “JOURNALIST,” “LA CRÓNICA,” “EL PROGRESO,” and “LA LIGA FEMENIL MEXICANISTA,” as well as “QUARTER DOLLAR,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
This one-of-a kind ornament is beautifully protected by matching packaging. It includes a certificate of authenticity, an explanation of the ornament’s design elements, and a brief description of the honoree. The dimensions of the ornaments are 2.7 x 3.2”, and the box is 4 5/8” square.
