The 2024 American Women Quarters Silver Proof Set™ includes five 99.9 percent fine silver proof quarters from the American Women Quarters™ Program honoring:
- Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray – was a poet, writer, activist, lawyer, and Episcopal priest. Murray is regarded as one of the most important social justice advocates of the twentieth century.
- Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink – As a Member of Congress, she fought for gender and racial equality, affordable childcare, and bilingual education. Mink was the champion of Title IX legislation in Congress, prohibiting sex discrimination in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Title IX was posthumously renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act.
- Dr. Mary Edwards Walker – was a Civil War era surgeon, and women’s rights and dress reform advocate. Walker relentlessly pursued her desire to serve as a surgeon during the Civil War and in 1863 she became the first woman U.S. Army surgeon as a "Contract Acting Assistant Surgeon (civilian)." To date, Walker is the only woman to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
- Celia Cruz – was a Cuban-American singer, cultural icon, and one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century. Known as the “Queen of Salsa,” Cruz’s numerous honors and awards include three American and four Latin Grammy awards, the Presidential Medal of Arts, and countless lifetime achievement awards.
- Zitkala-Ša – also known as Gertrude Simmons Bonnin, was a writer, composer, educator, and political activist for Native American rights and citizenship in the early 20th century. Zitkala-Ša was staunchly opposed to the annihilation of indigenous culture through assimilation after she was forced to give up her own Native American customs and traditions in exchange for education. Additionally, her advocacy work directly led to the passage of the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, which granted American Indians US Citizenship while still maintaining their tribal standing and citizenship.

The 2024 American Women Quarters Silver Proof Set™ features all five 2024 American Women Quarters. They are packaged in a protective lens to showcase and maintain their distinct proof finish.
This set is the annual release in the four-year series that celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by women who have shaped our Nation’s history and helped pave the way for generations who followed.
From 2022, and continuing through 2025, the Mint is issuing five new quarters each year featuring reverse designs honoring prominent American women.
Each coin in this series features a common obverse (heads) design depicting a portrait of George Washington. This design was originally composed and sculpted by Laura Gardin Fraser as a candidate entry for the 1932 quarter, which honored the bicentennial of George Washington’s birth. The inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2024.”
The American Women Quarters reverse (tails) designs honor a diverse group of notable American women who made significant contributions in a variety of fields, including suffrage, civil rights, abolition, government, humanities, science, space, and the arts. The women honored are from ethnically, racially, and geographically diverse backgrounds.
The 2024 reverses of these coins honor the following American women:
Reverand Dr. Pauli Murray
The reverse (tails) depicts Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray’s eyeglass-framed face within the shape of the word “HOPE,” which is symbolic of Murray’s belief that significant societal reforms were possible when rooted in hope. A line from her poem “Dark Testament,” characterizes hope as “A SONG IN A WEARY THROAT,” an inscription in the design. Additional inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “25₵,” “THE REVEREND DR. PAULI MURRAY,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink
The reverse (tails) depicts Patsy Takemoto Mink holding her landmark “TITLE IX” legislation. In the background, a view of the U.S. Capitol Building prominently features the south wing, home to the U.S. House of Representatives, where Mink served in Congress. The lei she wears represents her home state of Hawaii. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “PATSY TAKEMOTO MINK,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “25 CENTS,” and “EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN EDUCATION.”
Dr. Mary Edwards Walker
The reverse (tails) depicts Dr. Mary Edwards Walker holding her pocket surgical kit, with the Medal of Honor on her uniform, and surgeon’s pin at her collar. After receiving the award, she continued to wear the Medal of Honor for the rest of her life. The left side of the design showcases the details of the Medal of Honor. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “25 CENTS,” “DR. MARY EDWARDS WALKER,” and “MEDAL OF HONOR 1865.”
Celia Cruz
The reverse (tails) features a dynamic depiction of Celia Cruz flashing her dazzling smile while performing in a rumba style dress. Her signature catchphrase “¡AZÚCAR!” is inscribed on the right. Additional inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “25₵,” and “CELIA CRUZ.”
Zitkala-Ša
The reverse (tails) depicts Zitkala-Ša in traditional Yankton Sioux dress. She is holding a book, which represents her work as an author as well as her successful activism for Native American rights. Behind her, a stylized sun represents her work on The Sun Dance Opera, while a cardinal symbolizes her name, which translates to “Red Bird.” A Yankton Sioux-inspired diamond pattern sits underneath the sun. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “AUTHOR,” “ACTIVIST,” “COMPOSER,” “25 CENTS,” and “ZITKALA-ŠA.”
