American Buffalo Coins

Gold Buffalo Coins are limited edition proof coins and among the most coveted and sought after products produced by the U.S. Mint. Based on the highly popular Type I Buffalo nickel, these coins were reintroduced as the first 24-karat gold proof coin ever struck by the U.S. Mint.

American Buffalo Coins are collector versions of the official U.S. Mint American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coins. Each coin contains one ounce of .9999 fine, 24-karat gold and is presented in an elegant leatherette box with distinctive finishing touches, and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Designed by James Earle Fraser, a student of the legendary sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this timeless design remained in use for 25 years and then was not used again until 2001 with the release of the American Buffalo Commemorative Coin.

The American Buffalo Gold Coin's obverse and reverse designs feature images originally created for America's five-cent coin originally introduced in 1913. That popular coin, known as the "Indian Head," or "Buffalo Nickel," showcases the native beauty of the American West.

Pricing for precious metal numismatic products (e.g., palladium, platinum, 24-k gold, 22-k gold) varies by the average cost of the underlying metal. We use our pricing range table the week prior to sale in order to determine the product's price. If the average weekly price of the precious metal moves up or down into another cost range, the price of the product will also go up or down, respectively, by a fixed amount. You’ll find detailed pricing instructions here.
