July 2005

United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change Web site is a beehive of activity once again!  Learn "What's New For You" as you explore the links below.

Coin News

July Coin of the Month—Plinky is pleased to introduce July's Coin of the Month, the 2005 Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Commemorative Silver Dollar.  This coin features an image of the Marine Corps Memorial, which shows the historic flag rasing at Iwo Jima, and the Marine Corps motto, "Semper Fidelis" (Always Faithful).  Honoring the Marine Corps' 230-year history of service to the nation, this coin provides a tangible link to many events in the history of our country.

Celebrate Independence Day!—Here, your students can learn about the Declaration of Independence.  This page includes brief informational text about the ratification of the Declaration and an interactive activity based on fun facts about some of its signers.  Help your students learn that there is more to the 4th of July than fireworks!

Coins of the World—New Zealand!—This third installment in the Coins of the World series explores the people, customs, and geography of New Zealand through its coinage.  Have your students accompany the H.I.P. Pocket Change Pals on their adventures in New Zealand.  After they have completed the activities, they can take a quiz on what they've learned and print a passport with the coin souvenirs they've earned through their correct answers.
