April 2008

During the past month, new information and activities have been added to the United States Mint H.I.P. Pocket Change Web site.  To help you learn "What's New for You," we've listed and linked these features below.

April Coin of the Month:  Join Bill as he learns more about the New Mexico quarter.  The quarter design features a topographic map and a Zia sun symbol.

State Quarter Day in the Classroom:  Celebrate the New Mexico quarter with State Quarter Day in the Classroom.  Read more about the "Land of Enchantment" and find out wha's great about the 47th state.

Time Machine:  At this moment, Inspector Collector is setting the dials on the Time Machine for a trip to the year 1956.  After the adventure, continue with out "Dedication on Display" Teacher Feature to help your class find out more about the Civil Rights Movement, the Montgomery bus boycott, and the accomplishments of some notable African-Americans.

Making Cents:  The latest issue of this "quarterly" e-newlestter celebrates the new facilities pages, the latest quarter (New Mexico), coins of a different finish, and the newest Time Machine adventure.  There is also a brand new crossword puzzle based on the newslette's contents.  If you'd like to sign up to receive announcements about Making Cents, new lesson plans, and special projects, join the Teachers' Network.

Financial Literacy Month:  April is a time to focus on Financial Literacy.  But what is financial literacy?  Visit the Financial Literacy page to find lesson plans, games, and classroom activities that help your students learn more about earning, saving, and spending.

National Coin Week:  This year, National Coin Week runs from April 20 through 26.  To celebrate, the H.I.P. Pocket Change Pals will choose a special activity for you each day of the week.  To see what the pick of the day is, click here to go to the National Coin Week page.
