The U.S. Mint produces the nation’s circulating coins. The Mint also produces coin-related products, including proof, uncirculated, and commemorative coins; Congressional Gold Medals; and precious metal bullion coins.

Circulating Coins

Circulating coins are used for everyday transactions and include the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. The half dollar and $1 coins are produced as collectibles, but may still be used as legal tender.

Collectible & Investment Coins

The Mint produces precious metal coins for collectors and investors in proof, uncirculated, and bullion finishes. Proof and uncirculated coins are collected for their limited mintage numbers, while bullion coins offer a way to invest in precious metals such as gold and palladium.

Commemorative Coins

Commemorative coins are authorized by Congress to celebrate and honor American people, places, events, and institutions. The Mint makes a limited quantity of each coin and sells them for a limited time.

Medals

The Mint produces national medals to commemorate historical events and honor those whose achievements have enriched U.S. history or the world. The Mint also makes Congressional Gold Medals authorized by Congress.
