Background

The U.S. Olympic Cycling Silver Dollar was released in 1995 to support the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games and the programs of the United States Olympic Committee.

Recipient Organization

Recipient Organization was the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, Inc. and the United States Olympic Committee. Commemorative coin programs are created by acts of Congress to honor a person, place, or event. Surcharges from the sales of these coins help fund a variety of organizations and projects that benefit the public. Commemorative coins are only available from the United States Mint for a limited time, as specified by public law.

Characteristics

The obverse features a design of three men competing in a cycling race.

The reverse features a silhouette outlined design of the Olympic logo and clasped hands, to symbolize the brotherhood and team spirit of the Olympic Games. This coin is frosted with a polished design.
