The Maine Centennial Half Dollar was released in 1920 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Maine's admission into the Union.
Anthony de Francisci, who also sculpted the Peace Dollar, designed the obverse and reverse.
The legislation did not specify a recipient organization. Although originally intended to be sold at the state centennial celebration in July 1920, the coins were not ready in time. Ultimately, they were sold through the Office of the State Treasurer of Maine.
The obverse design features the Maine State Seal.
The reverse features a pine wreath.
