U.S. Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program

The 2025 United States Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps. Public Law 118-10 directed the U.S. Mint to issue $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half dollar clad coins as part of the program. The designs highlighted the tradition and values of the Marine Corps with the common reverse featuring the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor--the Marine Corps’ official emblem. 

The Marine Corps was founded on November 10, 1775 by a resolution from the Second Continental Congress. This resolution established two battalions of Continental Marines and marked the birth date of the United States Marine Corps. Serving on land and at sea, these first Marines distinguished themselves in a number of important operations.

The Marine Corps remains an important tool for U.S. foreign policy. It is the maritime land force service branch of the Armed Forces that can respond rapidly on short notice. Marines are often the first military members deployed to a situation.

The Marine Corps’ greatest asset is its people – brave men and women who choose to put service above self. Honor, Courage, and Commitment are the core values. The official emblem – the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor – includes a ribbon with the phrase “Semper Fidelis,” meaning “Always Faithful.” This emphasis on tradition, history, and culture is critical to the continued success of the Marine Corps.

Coin prices included surcharges of $35 for each $5 gold coin, $10 for each silver dollar, and $5 for each clad half dollar. The Public Law authorized the surcharges to be paid to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for the purposes of supporting the Marine Corps Heritage Center.
