Background

The Vermont Sesquicentennial (Bennington) Half Dollar was released in 1927 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Bennington.

Recipient Organization

The coins were distributed by banks in the state of Vermont. The Bennington Battle Monument and Hisotrical Association coordinated the efforts and was compensated for their efforts.

Characteristics

The obverse design features Ira Allen, founder of Vermont.

The reverse features the figure of a catamount—a large wild cat native to Vermont—and the date of the Battle of Bennington.
