Everything is in full bloom in Washington, DC, including the Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin Program. The 2024 three-coin program continues to blossom, both in popularity and in sales. Recently, the United States Mint promoted the program at two events in the District of Columbia.

On April 16, the Honorable Ventris C. Gibson along with additional United States Mint leadership and staff attended a reception, “Celebrating the Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin Program.” The event was held at the United States Capitol Visitor Center Congressional Auditorium, made possible by Procter & Gamble, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coins were on display for attendees to see.

Members of Congress, including Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH); Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05); Rep. Joyce Beatty (OH-03); Rep. Claudia Tenney (NY-24); Rep. Brandon Williams (NY-22), and the CEOs from both recipient organizations (Karen Hill, Harriet Tubman Home, Inc.; Woodrow Keown, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center) were in attendance. Damon Jones, CCO, Procter & Gamble, served as the emcee.

On April 17, Director Gibson was a featured speaker at All in Together’s 5th Annual “Black Women Lead” at the Conrad Hotel. Erica Loewe, White House Chief of Staff for the Office of Public Engagement, sat down with Director Gibson for a discussion about “Making History at the U.S. Mint.” The talk was attended by approximately 400 attendees.

Additionally, members of the Mint’s retail team and Program Manager for the Harriet Tubman Coins Program was on site selling Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coins at the event. Director Gibson signed Certificates of Authenticity and spoke with attendees about the historic coin program.

The 2024 Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin Program celebrates the bicentennial of Harriet Tubman’s birth in 2022. Public Law 117-163, the Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Act, directs the U.S. Mint to issue $5 gold coins, $ 1 silver coins, and half dollar coins as part of the program. The Public Law authorizes the surcharges to be paid to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Harriet Tubman Home, Inc., in Auburn, New York to advance their missions.
