U.S. Mint Holds First–Ever Clearance Sale of Jewelry and Gifts

March 13, 2002
Historic Inventory Sale Begins March 27

WASHINGTON — The United States Mint announced today that for the first time in its history it will begin selling select jewelry and collectibles at special clearance prices beginning March 27 at 12:00 Noon (Eastern Time).

During the sale the Mint will offer jewelry and collectibles from previous years at 10 to 40 percent below original retail prices. Because quantities are limited, customers are encouraged to act fast.

“This sale is a great opportunity,” said David Pickens, Associate Director for Sales and Marketing. “Whether for birthdays, anniversaries, or graduations, these sale items will make great gifts. There’s something in every price range, at substantial savings!”

Customers are encouraged to visit the Mint website early for the best selection. Customers also may telephone the Mint’s Customer Care Center to request a listing of the available products. Some products may require cleaning or polishing. All watches will contain new batteries.

Customers can purchase clearance inventory sale items two ways: First, they can save shipping and handling charges by using the U.S. Mint’s secure web site http://www.usmint.gov/catalog; or order by telephone, by calling 1–800–USA–MINT, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hearing–and speech impaired customers with TTY equipment may order by calling 1–888–321–6468. A shipping and handling fee of $3.95 per order will be added to telephone orders.
