United States Mint Limits Sale of Lewis & Clark Coinage & Currency Sets to 10 Per Order

May 13, 2004

Because of the enormous popularity of the newly released limited edition Lewis and Clark Coinage and Currency Set, the United States Mint has decided to limit the maximum number of sets accepted per order to 10.

When the United States Mint made this exciting new product available at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 12, both our customer care telephone center and our Internet–based product catalog immediately began experiencing heavier than normal activity. This resulted in many United States Mint customers experiencing ordering delays.

Based on the high number of sets per order received in the first few hours, we decided to put a limit on individual orders. Many of our customers have already received an e–mail notifying them of reductions in their orders. The order limit still allows individuals and collectors the opportunity to obtain one of these new sets. Limiting the number of sets available per order helps achieve the widest possible distribution of this historical offering while still maintaining its limited mintage of 50,000 units.

We are pleased that our partnership with the National Archives and Records Administration has resulted in such a desirable product, and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
