Washington — The United States Mint will inform and educate visitors as well as present beautiful collectible products at the American Numismatic Association's (ANA) World's Fair of Money® at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from July 27 through July 31.
Visitors should not miss a stunning display by the Office of the Historian of the United States Mint, featuring a collection of unique historical artifacts, many of them on public display for the first time. Original photographs that chronicle the Agency's 213–year history, including the aftermath of the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Original, hard–bound annual reports from the late 19th and early 20th century are included in the display, as well as original ledgers, die books and other United States Mint documents offering a fascinating glimpse into the operation of America's coin maker.
As we prepare for the announcement of the designs for Return to Monticello in 2006, the final coin in the Westward Journey Nickel Series™, special emphasis will be given to the history of the original Jefferson nickel, a coin with a fascinating story that will be told through historic correspondence, photographs and artwork in a United States Mint display. The United States Mint Booth, #2202, on the second floor of the Moscone Center West (near the registration area) will feature perennial favorites, such as the 2005 United States Mint Silver Proof Set™, as well as exciting new coins, including the American Bison nickel in bags and rolls and the Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar.
Visitors to the United States Mint's booth will also be able to view a video of Virtual Tour II – numismatics. Following the successful launch of last year's Virtual Tour, which detailed the step–by–step circulating coin production process, the United States Mint sequel — Virtual Tour II — allows viewers to see numismatic production processes. Virtual Tour II is set to debut on the United States Mint website in late July.
