“Theodore Roosevelt” Enlivens Launch Ceremony

Bismarck, North Dakota — The North Dakota commemorative quarter–dollar coin was unveiled to the American public today featuring an image of bison grazing at sunset in the rugged North Dakota Badlands. The United States Mint launched the 39th quarter in its popular 50 State Quarters Program at Civic Center. United States Mint Deputy Director David A. Lebryk, Governor John Hoeven, First Lady Mikey Hoeven and Lieutenant Governor Jack Dalrymple were joined in the ceremony by Theodore Roosevelt re–enactor Clay Jenkinson. The Medora Musical Singers entertained the crowd, and the Cannon Ball Singers from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe provided an honor song.

“This quarter will capture the imagination of Americans,” said Deputy Director Lebryk. “It evokes remarkable pieces of North Dakota history — wild buffalo herds and the rugged landscape of the Badlands.”

The reverse of the North Dakota quarter also bears the inscriptions “North Dakota” and “1889,” the year North Dakota was admitted into the Union, becoming our Nation’s 39th state. The North Dakota quarter is the 39th coin in the 50 State Quarters series and the fourth commemorative quarter–dollar released in 2006.

Following the ceremony, Deputy Director Lebryk, Governor Hoeven, First Lady Mikey Hoeven, Lieutenant Governor Dalrymple and the 17th Infantry Regiment and Company H re–enactors handed out shiny, new North Dakota quarters to the children in the crowd. Adults lined up to exchange their bills for $10 rolls of North Dakota quarters.

The North Dakota quarter is available in two–roll sets (40 coins per roll), including one roll each from the United States Mint at Philadelphia and Denver, and in bags of 100 and 1,000 coins, at the United States Mint website at www.usmint.gov.
