Bronze Medals Honoring Golfer Byron Nelson Available April 26 from the United States Mint

WASHINGTON — The United States Mint announced today that bronze duplicates and miniature bronze replicas of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring the late golf champion Byron Nelson will be available beginning at noon on Thursday, April 26, at www.usmint.gov.

The Congressional Gold Medal will be awarded at a later date to the golfer’s widow, Mrs. Peggy Nelson, in recognition of Mr. Nelson’s significant contributions to the game of golf as a player, a teacher, and a commentator.

The obverse design, by United States Mint Sculptor–Engraver Norman Nemeth, features a portrait of Byron Nelson with the inscriptions “Byron Nelson 1912–2006” and “Act of Congress 2006.” The reverse design, by United States Mint Sculptor–Engraver Don Everhart, depicts a younger Nelson, with the inscriptions, “Player, Teacher, Humanitarian” and “Champion.”

Duplicate three–inch bronze medals are available from the United States Mint for $38.00 (Product #905), and the 1–1/2 inch miniature bronze replicas of the large medal are available for $3.75 (Product #906).

The public is invited to purchase the bronze medals online using the United States Mint’s secure website at www.usmint.gov, or by calling toll–free 1–800–USA–MINT (872–6468). A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 per order will be added to all orders. Hearing– and speech–impaired customers may order by calling 1–888–321–MINT (6468).
