WASHINGTON — On January 22, at 12 noon Eastern Time (ET), the United States Mint will begin accepting orders for bags and rolls of 2009–dated half–dollars bearing the image of President John F. Kennedy. Available options include a two–roll set (20 coins per roll), priced at $32.95, that contains one roll each of coins produced at the United States Mint at Philadelphia with the “P” mint mark and the United States Mint at Denver with the “D” mint mark. Also available is a 200–coin bag, priced at $130.95, containing an equal number of half–dollars produced at both the Philadelphia and Denver facilities.
The Kennedy half–dollar is a circulating quality coin, struck on our main production floors at the United States Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver. The obverse design features a portrait of President Kennedy by Gilroy Roberts, former Sculptor–Engraver at the United States Mint. The coin’s reverse design is based on the presidential seal, and was executed by Frank Gasparro, also a former United States Mint Sculptor–Engraver.
Orders for the bags and rolls of 2009 Kennedy half–dollars will be accepted at the United States Mint’s secure Web site at www.usmint.gov. Telephone orders will be accepted at 1–800–USA–MINT (872–6468). Hearing– and speech–impaired customers may order by calling 1–888–321–MINT (6468).
