United States Mint Resumes Shipment of 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coins

February 25, 2009

WASHINGTON — The United States Mint is pleased to announce that it will resume shipping the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin the week of February 22, 2009. However, because of production problems with the product's Companion Book, the agency expects some customers to receive only the coin and presentation box at this time.

For customers who ordered the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin between January 22 and February 23, 2009, the United States Mint expects shipment by April 24, 2009. For customers who ordered on February 24, or who place orders after that date (and up until March 24, 2009), the United States Mint expects to ship the coin by May 24, 2009.

Customers who only receive the coin and presentation box will receive the Companion Book when it becomes available, in a separate shipment, at no extra charge. E–mail notifications will be sent to these customers when the book is ready to be shipped. The Companion Book is expected to be available for shipment March 9.

Customers who ordered a 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin between January 22, 2009 and February 9, 2009, remain covered under the United States Mint's former 30–day return policy. Customers who ordered on or after February 10, 2009, are covered under the new seven–day return policy. The return timeframe for the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin and presentation box will begin on the date customers receive them. If customers are dissatisfied for any reason with their 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin, they may return it to the United States Mint within the applicable return period for a full refund or replacement. If they return the coin for any reason prior to receiving the Companion Book, they will not receive the book at a later date. If customers receive the Companion Book within the applicable return period, they must return both the coin and the book for a full refund.

If the Companion Book is shipped separately, the exchange timeframe for it also will begin on the date customers receive it, and the same return policy – 30 days or seven days – will apply. The United States Mint will make no refunds for the book; it will only exchange it in the case of damage to the original.

Customers' orders will be shipped on a first–come, first–served basis. They will be notified by e–mail when their order has shipped. If customers do not receive the Companion Book with the coin, they will receive a second e–mail notification when the United States Mint ships the Companion Book. Please note that receipt of the Companion Book at a later date after the coin will not restart the timeframe for returning this product.
