Bags and Rolls of American Samoa Quarters Available July 27

July 14, 2009

WASHINGTON — Collectors may begin ordering specially packaged American Samoa commemorative quarter–dollar coins on July 27, 2009, at noon Eastern Time. Available options are a two–roll set and a 100–coin bag, both priced at $32.95, and a 1,000–coin bag priced at $309.95.

The bags and rolls contain circulating quality coins struck on the main production floors of the United States Mint facilities at Denver and Philadelphia. The two–roll set includes two rolls of 40 coins each wrapped in distinctive packaging featuring the mint mark of origin (“P” or “D”), “AS” and the face value of their contents. Each canvas bag has a tag identifying the mint mark of origin, “AS” and the face value of its contents. Packaging for both options displays the genuine United States Mint logo.

The American Samoa quarter will enter into circulation on July 27. The coin’s reverse (tails side) design features the ava bowl (“tanoa”), whisk and staff in the foreground with a coconut tree on the shore in the background. Inscriptions include AMERICAN SAMOA and SAMOA MUAMUA LE ATUA (“Samoa, God is First”), the territory’s motto. This is the fourth coin to be released under the 2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program.

Collectors may purchase the two–roll sets and bags of American Samoa quarters at the United States Mint’s secure Web site, www.usmint.gov, or by calling 1–800–USA–MINT (872–6468). Hearing– and speech–impaired customers may order by calling 1–888–321–MINT (6468). Domestic orders include a $4.95 fee per order for shipping and handling. Bags of 1,000 coins will carry an additional charge of $7.95 per unit because of their weight and size.
