United States Mint Announces Plans for the Release of American Eagle Silver Proof Coins with San Francisco Mint Mark

May 2, 2012

WASHINGTON — The United States Mint today announced plans for the release of the new 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two–Coin Silver Proof Set. This historic set will contain one silver proof coin and one silver reverse proof coin, both bearing the "S" mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco. The coins, struck in 99.9 percent silver, will be mounted in a custom blue lacquer presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

There will be no household order limit, with sets being produced to meet demand. Pricing will be finalized close to the set's on–sale date of June 7, 2012, and will be based on the market price of silver at the time. The United States Mint has established a four–week ordering window, beginning June 7 at noon (ET) and ending July 5 at 5 p.m. (ET). Orders will begin shipping in late July.

Orders for the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two–Coin Silver Proof Set will be accepted at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or at 1–800–USA–MINT (872–6468). Hearing– and speech–impaired customers with TTY equipment may order by calling 1–888–321–MINT (6468). All domestic orders will be assessed a shipping and handling fee of $4.95 per order.

The United States Mint, created by Congress in 1792, is the Nation's sole manufacturer of legal tender coinage and is responsible for producing circulating coinage for the Nation to conduct its trade and commerce. The United States Mint also produces proof, uncirculated and commemorative coins; Congressional Gold Medals; and silver, gold and platinum bullion coins.

Note: To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, orders placed prior to the official on–sale date and time of June 7, 2012, noon ET shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored.
