United States Mint Set to Release Ida McKinley First Spouse Gold Coin November 14

WASHINGTON — The United States Mint will release the First Spouse Gold Coin honoring Ida McKinley on November 14 at noon Eastern Time (ET). Both proof and uncirculated versions of the coin will be available. The maximum mintage is set at 10,000 coins across all product options. Customer demand will determine the ratio of proof to uncirculated coins produced within the maximum mintage limit.

The coin’s obverse (heads side) was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor–Engraver Phebe Hemphill. The design includes Mrs. McKinley’s portrait and the inscriptions IDA MCKINLEY, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 2013, 25th, and 1897 – 1901.

The coin’s reverse (tails side) was designed by United States Mint AIP Master Designer Donna Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor–Engraver Renata Gordon. The design depicts two hands crocheting, representing Mrs. McKinley’s work making thousands of slippers that were auctioned off for charity. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $10, ½ OZ., and .9999 FINE GOLD.

Pricing for the First Spouse Gold Coins will be based on the United States Mint’s pricing policy for gold and platinum products, available at

Orders will be accepted at the bureau’s online catalog, http://www.usmint.gov/catalog, and at 1–800–USA–MINT (872–6468). Hearing– and speech–impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1–888–321–MINT (6468). A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders.
