WASHINGTON – The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for Betty Ford First Spouse Gold Coins (product codes 16SC and 16SD) starting March 25 at noon Eastern Time (ET).
The obverse (heads side) features a portrait of Mrs. Ford with the inscriptions “BETTY FORD,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “LIBERTY,” “2016,” “38th,” and “1974-1977.” The obverse was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) artist Barbara Fox and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso.
The reverse (tails side) features a young woman ascending a staircase, representing Mrs. Ford’s openness and advocacy regarding addiction, breast cancer awareness, and the rights of women. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$10,” “1/2 OZ.” and “.9999 FINE GOLD.” The reverse was designed by AIP artist Chris Costello and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Renata Gordon.
Pricing for the 2016 First Spouse Series Gold Coins is in accordance with the United States Mint pricing schedule for gold and platinum coins, which are priced according to the range in which they appear on the United States Mint Gold and Platinum Coin Pricing Grid at http://catalog.usmint.gov/coins/gold-coins/.
Mintage for the Betty Ford First Spouse Gold Coin is limited to 10,000 units across both proof and uncirculated product options. The ratio of proof coins to uncirculated coins produced will be based on customer demand.
