Doolittle Tokyo Raiders Bronze Medal
Mintage Limit is the total number of a coin manufactured across all products. (For example, a coin may be available in rolls and in our annual sets).
Product Limit is the number of a coin made available in the individual product.
Household Order Limit In cases where we have limited-mintage products (e.g., legislatively mandated or Mint established production or mintage limits), the United States Mint may impose order or household order limits. Order limits help us ensure that we provide fair purchase opportunities to the broadest audience possible. As we monitor our products, limits may be implemented, adjusted, or removed at our discretion.
The Doolittle Tokyo Raiders Bronze Medal is a bronze replica of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to the Doolittle Raiders – a group of 80 U.S. airmen who flew a mission into Japan on April 18, 1942 – for their extraordinary service during World War II.
The obverse design features the North American B–25B Mitchell launching off the USS Hornet (CV–8), 16 stars representing the 16 flight crews that made up the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders, and the inscriptions “DOOLITTLE TOKYO RAIDERS,” “FIRST STRIKE” and “APRIL 18, 1942.”
The reverse design features B–25B Mitchell aircraft approaching their target with four patches representing the four squadrons (34th, 37th, 89th, and 95th) that make up the 17th Bombardment Group. The inscriptions are “17TH BOMBARDMENT GROUP,” “TOUJOURS AU DANGER” and “ACT OF CONGRESS 2014.”
