John Adams Presidential Silver Medal

$90.00

Founding Father John Adams co-wrote the Declaration of Independence which began the Revolutionary War, and later negotiated the Treaty of Paris, which ended it. He served faithfully as the Nation’s first Vice President under George Washington before being elected as the second President, setting a precedent for the peaceful transfer of power that would become an American tradition. For much of his Presidency, John Adams fought to avoid war with one of the Nation’s former allies, France, after a number of violent confrontations at sea. In response to this threat, his administration permanently established the Department of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps as a standing military force which defend America to this day. Thanks to his commitment to diplomacy, war was never declared, and the conflict was resolved with the Treaty of Mortefontaine, which Adams would later describe as his greatest achievement during the two terms of his Presidency.
