The Massachusetts State Quarter is the sixth coin in the 50 State Quarters Program. The U.S. Mint released it on January 3, 2000 as the first quarter of the year.
The quarter design shows the a minuteman soldier. During the Revolutionary War, many citizens were called to fight at a minute’s notice, earning the name “minutemen.”
The obverse (heads) design features the familiar image of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter since 1932.
The reverse (tails) shows the figure of a minuteman soldier of the American Revolution against an outline of the state.
