In 2017, the U.S. Mint released the Boys Town Centennial $5 Gold Coin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Boys Town. The coin is part of the Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin Program. The program includes a $5 gold coin, $1 silver coin, and half dollar clad coin.
Boys Town is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the country, dedicated to serving at-risk children and families of all backgrounds and religions.
The obverse (heads) design features a portrait of Father Flanagan.
The reverse (tails) design features an outstretched hand holding a young oak tree growing from an acorn. As stated in the idiom “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow,” this design represents the potential of each child helped by Boys Town to grow into a productive, complete adult.
