Background

The Lewis and Clark Exposition Gold Dollar was minted from 1904 to 1905 to commemorate the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition which took place in Portland, OR.

Recipient Organization

Proceeds from sales of the coins went to the Lewis and Clark Centennial and American Pacific Exposition and Oriental Fair Company to offset the cost of the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Oregon.

The obverse design features an image of Meriwether Lewis in profile.
