Background

The Maryland Tercentenary Half Dollar was released in 1934 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Province of Maryland.

Recipient Organization

The legislation stated: "Such coins may be disposed of at par or at a premium by said Commission and all proceeds shall be used in furtherance of the Maryland Tercentenary Commission projects."

Characteristics

The obverse design features the likeness of Cecil Calvert, Lord Baltimore.

The reverse features Calvert's coat of arms.
