Background

The U.S. Mint released the National Park Service 100th Anniversary $5 Gold Coin in 2016 to commemorate the centennial of the National Park Service. The coin is part of the National Park Service 100th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program. The program includes a $5 gold coin, $1 silver coin, and half dollar clad coin with different obverse and reverse designs.

Characteristics

The gold obverse (heads) design features John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt with Yosemite National Park's Half Dome in the background.

The gold reverse (tails) design features the National Park Service logo.
