Released on June 14, 1994, this coin was authorized in support of the World Cup Games.
Sales included a surcharge of $35 per coin for the five-dollar coins, $7 per coin for the dollar coins, and $1 per coin for the half-dollar coins. Surcharges were paid to the Organizing Committee to organize and stage the 1994 World Cup. Ten percent of such funds were made available through the U.S. Soccer Federation Foundation, Inc., for distribution to institutions for scholastic scholarships to qualified students.
The obverse design of the coin features two competing players converging on a soccer ball with six stars above the players.
The reverse of the coin features the official World Cup USA 1994 logo and laurel branches.
