Millard Fillmore was the 12th Vice President and 13th President of the United States, and the second to become President due to the death of his predecessor, Zachary Taylor. Fillmore’s Presidency oversaw the admittance of California as a State, the creation of territorial governments for New Mexico and Utah, and the establishment of a boundary between New Mexico and Texas. After losing the nomination for the next election, he went on to become the first Presidential nominee for the “Know Nothing” party, but never did regain the office.
